Ostro, it’s a little fancy, a little high fashion. I’ve been a couple of times and it never fails to impress. Beautiful food, beautiful people, and a killer view overlooking the harbour.

The line caught tahitian tuna remains as one of my highlights. Laid on generous amounts of edamame and garnished with soy picked daikon, wasabi mayonnaise and crisp karengo and pea shoots, it’s meant to be an appetiser to share but I’d happily order one for myself. Wasabi mayonnaise is something I’ll never tire of.
Ostro’s Sunday roasts are something different and comfortable on a chilly day. Designed to be shared, it’s got your favourite trimmings including roasted root veggies, Yorkshire pudding and you choose your own roast meat from chicken, lamb or pork. In my opinion, portions are a bit mean for two people so top up with a side of fries.

The roast duck ravioli lies under appetisers with a choice to have it as a main. I tried to convince myself that as a light dinner, an appetiser sized meal would suffice. The answer is no. You can never have too much ravioli on a plate.
I loved the ox tongue in two ways. I thought the portion was quite generous at $19 and it’s a treat to have something you won’t normally have. The item most worth the price tag would probably be the juicy beef brisket burger and chips. The combination of caramelised aubergine, cos lettuce, pickled courgette all between a brioche bun can probably satisfy most male eaters. At $24 compared to the other meats priced $35 and upwards, you really can’t complain.
If you dine with me, I’ll most likely convince you that a meal isn’t complete without something sweet. Cinnamon doughnuts are my favourite here, with a choice to smother it in jam or clotted cream. An adult rendition of your cinnamon dusted doughnuts from childhood, you almost feel abashed to enjoy it so much.
If you’re in between lunch and dinner dates in town, Ostro’s city terrace bar is a fun hangout. People watch on the terrace or enjoy the live jazz music there on Sundays.
It’s a good option to choose if you’re set to impress a special someone or for business meetings. There’s a range of different offerings so go for gold.
