Winter has never been so exciting with so many foodie events coming up. Prepare to get chubby this winter!
Graze and Feast is on every Friday in July from 5pm at Shed 10 on Queen’s Wharf. If you were like me and was sorely disappointed at last year’s Streets Eats during Auckland Restaurant Month, this is nothing like it. First of all, it’s run by entirely different people. The focus is on showcasing Auckland’s own food trucks and vendors that until now, have only been popping up at markets and events. Auckland CBD needs something like this. Other places around Auckland are lucky to have night markets on different nights.
At first I was on the fence about going. A whopping 18k people said they were going to go on their Facebook event. After last year’s experience and lining up 45 minutes for a palm sized taco, I wasn’t ready to be swallowed up by crowds again. But last Friday I gave in to my inner fattie and ended up going with fellow foodie and blogger Genie from Bunny Eats Design (AWESOME blog).
I loved the vibe. Yes the lines are long but impatient and rude people would have hopefully taken the hint and headed to somewhere else for their feed.
Here are some things that could be useful to know before going:
- It starts at 5pm so if you work in town, don’t fluff about after work and go early to avoid the crowds
- It’s hot in there, wear layers
- There are drinks on sale but I wished I brought a drink bottle
- If there is something you really want to eat, go line up for it first. Last week, some vendors sold out by 8pm
It looks like vendors change every Friday night so keep an eye out on their Facebook page. I loved the variety of healthy and indulgent options, and there really is something that will appeal to everyone. My favourite from last Friday was the Hungarian fried bread. So worth the 30min queue.
