Usually I’m not one to explore keto recipes. After all – if you treat yourself, you might as well do it properly! But after my gestational diabetes life began, I started to appreciate and take note of the nutritional value of different foods. And most importantly – whether I can still eat the foods I loved without keeping myself in that GD jail. In times like this – comes the avocado chocolate mousse recipe to save me from my cravings. It is nourishing, full of nutrients, and ticks the plant-based box!
Avocados are a nutrient-dense food, rich in monounsaturated fats, vitamins and minerals. Most importantly avocados:
- Have a low sugar content compared to other fruits, making them a suitable option for those watching their sugar intake (aka me!)
- Provide long-lasting energy and satiety (something I had struggled with since cutting carbs)
This recipe makes avocado mousse for one. Feel free to double or triple the recipe if making for the whole family or as an easy dessert for guests.
A note about the ingredients:
- Use a super ripe avocado – this the key to make the mousse super smooth
- We’re not after lite alternatives – use full cream coconut milk! This will help create a creamy texture when the mousse sets in the fridge
- Dutch cocoa is preferred because it brings that decadent dark chocolate taste. But if you only have plain cocoa, feel free to add a little more to taste
It is one sweet recipe you want to save for yourself or your friend. If you’re after something savoury that ticks the no-carb box, try these savoury egg muffins. They’re amazing as a snack to keep you full throughout the day and uses zero flour.
If you make either of the recipes, tag @ultimateomnoms on Instagram so I can feature you. It always warms my heart to see your creations across the world!

Ingredients
Method
- Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh into a blender
- Pour in the coconut milk
- Add the cocoa powder to the blender
- Blend all the ingredients until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the blender a few times to ensure everything is well combined. Taste the mousse and adjust the sweetness or cocoa powder if necessary.
- Transfer the mousse to a bowl. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavours to meld and the mousse to set.
- Serve the mousse chilled, optionally garnished with a sprinkle of chocolate, whipped cream or berries
