The rooster crows and the bull fights – Cock & Bull

What better place to watch the rugby and have good food in Auckland than at Cock & Bull? With 5 branches and 4 in Auckland, one in Hamilton, it feels nothing like a chain store or an overrated franchise.

A noisy English bar – full of energy and excitement. Huge screens everywhere and enough seating for everyone to enjoy their food before the game.

Most of us ordered the stone grill. With a full size and mini version available, along with four types of meat, it’s a tempting easy option for those who don’t know what to order.

It’s amusing how people dining out love to cook their own food. Look at the popularity of Korean BBQ and steamboat! The cute novelty of having your own hot stone slab and tssssssszzz sounds all around me was just too irresistible.

That was before our entrees came. The quantity was huge. Forget about being dainty and prim with your serviette over your lap. Dining at Cock & Bull makes you unleash your inner desires of eating seriously good food. In big quantities.

My huge buffalo wing. For a moment all the eyes were off the stone grills and jealously on our entrees! Muahahaha!

You can’t go wrong with awesome big platters of bar food. Onion rings, squid rings, batted fish, mussels, oysters, sausages, and wedges. Forgetting we were in a bar and obviously overestimating our hunger, we ordered extra wedges that needed everyone’s help to finish. I think we had enough wedges that night to last for a life-time.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I ordered chicken – as if the words “stone grill” weren’t clear enough to me. Knowing that it takes a long long time to cook compared to red meat, I had to wait a while before I could finish off that chicken.

Beautiful lamb and beef – perfect colouring for me… OMNOMNOM

Indeed. With satisfied tummies and laughter all around!

Cock & Bull is definitely a bar that feeds you when you’re hungry – exactly what you need when you’re having your beer and watching the rugby. The food is nothing fancy, but the stone grill menu is truly something unique. With big screens and lots of space, it’s a perfect place to eat with your family, have a drink with your friends, or both – while enjoying the game.
