Stamford Champagne High Tea

High teas seem to be all the rage in Auckland. It’s become quite the norm for girly gatherings – there’s always bridal parties and mother&daughter groups happening. Like Langham Hotel (click for review HERE), Stamford Plaza is well known for their high teas. One thing I love about hotel high teas is the atmosphere. Relaxed enough to make you feel comfortable about spending a whole afternoon there, and luxurious enough to kick it up a notch for a special occasion.

The proportions seemed JUST right for 2 people when the tiered platters came. With the desserts and tarts perched on the top, we were ready to nom our way up the tower!

With a wide range of teas and coffees, mine came in a huge pot. Perfect, knowing how much tea I go through!

The sandwiches were a bit unimpressive – smoked salmon with cucumber, smoked ham and cheese. A bit plain and cucumber seems to be the recurring theme of high tea sandwiches…Why??

I skipped straight to the second tier for the curry puff. Apparently a “Stamford Signature” it did not fail to impress! These are easy enough to make at home it seems, but the light pastry with the delicious filling was definitely a great start to a wining afternoon tea.

Scones were served with whipped cream and raspberry jam. They were just as amazing – perfect density and it’s not normal for me to rave about scones!

These cute tarts and mini cakes are exactly why ladies always have a separate stomach for dessert. I was pleased that they weren’t overly rich or sickening sweet after the savoury treats. I must eat my words about having a separate stomach though! We doggy-bagged most of these and Stamford was nice enough to package it up in a cute box.

Stamford high tea has a range of prices and are particularly good with their child friendly options. Fancy a glass of bubbles with live music? Book a high tea in the weekend for a dose of classic elegance. Food was not overly wow and I’ve seen better at $42 pp ($35 without bubbles) but if all you need is a bit of indulgence then it’s not a bad option for your next high tea experience!
